Sheep Dog Trials
One of the popular features of the lamb show was the Oregon State Dog Trials. It was the longest running trial on the Pacific Coast. The trials are designed to test the ability of the sheep dog in controlling sheep.
The dog, under the control of his master, attempts to move five sheep from one end of an enclosed field through two simulated gates in the opposite ends of the enclosed field and then corral them in a pen.
They are judged on the outrun (dog circles the sheep), lift (dog drives the sheep from behind)
fetch (dog brings the sheep toward the master) drive (dog drives the sheep through the gates) and penning.
Each dog is allowed 8 minutes to complete the course but speed is not considered important in the judging of the trial.
NO DOG TRIALS WILL BE HELD
