Gary Bates Memorial Scholarship
Gary Bates was a teacher, a coach of numerous sports, a 4-H leader and supporter
of youth events at his church. He even came out of retirement to serve local classrooms
as a guest teacher. He was actively involved in community service as a member of the
Cougar Foundation, Cascade FFA Alumni Association, Aumsville Cemetery Board,
Aumsville Volunteer Fire District and the Aumsville City Council.
He was often the announcer at local youth sporting events.
In an effort to honor the late Mr. Bates, the Marion County Lamb & Wool Board
offers two $250 scholarships to graduating local High School Seniors
with a preference for those involved in a sheep or wool project.
